Are We Becoming "Cyborgs?"

After talking about technology for the entire semester and observing my classmates, I have become much more aware of the amount of technology we use. Almost everyone in every single one of my classes has a laptop, a tablet, or both in front of them at all times. Technology rules all of our lives to an extent, and even though we are still generally in control, we are in danger of relying on technology too much. People allow themselves to become brainwashed by technology and many people seek to misuse it. This could cause serious problems in the future when technology becomes too smart and people become even more reliant on it. We could either become melded with technology, or we could be completely wiped out and replaced by technology. We should be careful about how much we rely on technology to "think for us."

  1. I agree. I think technology should be used in moderation so that we can get the benefits of it, yet not have all the harsh drawbacks. I think that if technology was regulated then everyone would be able to still “hold conversations” with others while still being able to have a world of information at their fingertips.

  2. Technology becomes a habit for us. I constantly am on my phone and I know it is a bad habit. I actually have made it a thing lately where I put my phone down for an hour or two so I get a break from technology.

  3. I agree that most of our generation has a tendency to be on their phones too much, but I especially worry about the younger generations. One of my nephews who is seven, for example, has been glued to his mother's iPhone since he was 2. He became so good at using it and finding videos he wanted on YouTube that my sister and I couldn't tell if my nephew had learned to read/write a little bit, or if he had just memorized what to punch in to find "truck videos" on YouTube. To this day we still don't know. He would just take his mom's phone and be able to find the truck videos he wanted to watch on YouTube better than he could communicate something to me to my face.
