SOS! [And no, not by ABBA (Or Rihanna)]

So over this past weekend my friend Rebecca went on the Model United Nations trip to North Carolina, and while trying to shut off her alarm on Sunday, she accidentally hit an SOS button on her phone. Now, I was not aware that there was such a function available on Samsung phones until she explained it, and I think creating it was a fantastic idea.

When the button is pressed, the phone automatically takes and sends a picture from both the front and rear cameras, sends out an SOS message, and then gives the location of the person down to exact coordinates. For a person like me who is very invested in personal safety, I thought this was a very useful tool for people to use in emergency situations. It's much like the easily accessible emergency button in the lock screen of smartphones, but it also gives other important information if you are unable to talk or text.

However, I could also see how something like this could (possibly) be hacked without the user's knowledge in order for someone to see them or figure out where they are. What are your guys' thoughts?

  1. I can see where some people would be worried about hacking, but overall I think that the SOS button is a great idea. Like you, I wasn't aware that it existed until this post but it seem like a smart idea. Having a button like that on my phone would make me feel a little more safe in case I got into a situation where I couldn't text or talk.
