Cellphone Games

Cellphones are commonly seen as a waste of time, a distraction, or sometimes a way to easily keep in touch with friends and relatives. An abundance of cellphones have access to the internet, allowing for many methods of communication and many tools to further general knowledge, and twice as many distractions. Many mindless phone games are being played all around the world, whether it be waiting for a bus or just to spend 30 minutes trying to beat a level that was impossible before bed last night. It may seem useless, yet this website is predicting that “The mobile gaming industry is predicted to reach $54 billion by 2015.” Cellphone games make up “76 of the top 100 grossing iOS apps” and gross billions of dollars every year. It really blows my mind that so much money is being made when many people I know have never spent money on a phone game. What is your opinion?

  1. Most gamers used to look down on people who played games on their phones. They saw mobile games as childish and simple. These days their criticism has died down since phones and tablets are becoming more powerful and the games on them are becoming more in depth. The mobile gaming industry will only get bigger and better as time goes by.

  2. I see them as a quick money grab now, but back a couple of years and you get a new and unused market. it could bring games that we all love to any place we may go. this is what it was, but with this market getting flooded by clones it really changed the market and i feel hurt it. Now everyone is wanting to make the next game that makes them the most money. They leave out all of the thought that a game dev puts in to a game, and just produce the same game with a new skin for the next five years. it is a broken system.

  3. I've heard the argument made that most of these games are fundamentally different from other video games. They are more about filling gaps of time or mental breaks, as opposed to long-term immersive experiences. Is this true?
