Post for Jessica Friend

[Note from Dr. H: Jessica is still having a hard time getting Blogger to work for her, so I am posting on her behalf.]

In the book Alone Together, the suggestion is proposed that cell phones are in fact more important than people. Turkle makes a point about texting by saying, “Because you can text while doing something else, texting does not seem to take time but to give you time. This is more than welcome; it is magical” (Turkle).  In the Jennifer Lawerence interview during the golden globes she says to a reporter, "You can't live your whole life behind your phone bro" as Jennifer Lawerence shook her finger at a reporter after winning a golden globe. Then she continued to say " You can't do that, you need to live in the now". The reporter than asked her how she saw herself on the Oscar night, as she the quickly corrected him by saying, "we're at the golden globes, if you put your phone down you would know that". When I scrolled down on BuzzFeed, tons and tons of people were leaving huge comments about Jen, either bashing her or backing her up. In my opinion I think that Jenn was indeed rude; however, she has a serious point about the reporter. The reporter doesn't even seem to be paying attention. This situation with Jenn really made me understand some of Turkle's reasons for writing her book.
