"I stopped texting for a week..."

I ran across this column this morning and thought you might find it interesting!

  1. Wow, this article is very interesting. I, too, like most of my generation, have a “phone call phobia” and prefer to text. But I never stopped to realize how much I text versus call. This article made me think about the fact that I use my phone all the time to text, mostly out of convenience. It’s faster, easier, and less anxiety inducing. But I would like to know the psychology behind that. Because we all know that reading between the lines with texting isn’t really a science: it’s hard and, sometimes, painful if you read it the wrong way. Yet on a phone call you can hear someone’s voice and can easily read between the lines…so shouldn’t we be more anxious with texts than phone calls?

  2. For some reason, I've always preferred phone calls over texting. I just think it's much more convenient, because I can say what I need to say in an easy, hassle-free manner. For me, texting is something I do when I can't make a phone call, or when I have to talk to someone I'm not super comfortable with.

  3. I like talking on the phone more so than texting. I like hearing the personal aspects of the conversation. Like the sound of their voice when they get excited. Even though having hard conversations can be easier in text message, I think it is better to talk to them over the phone because you can reach a resolution faster and you can hear the emotion even when you can't be there to feel and see it in person.

  4. I used to hate phone calls when I was younger. I used my phone mainly to text. As I got older, I decided phone calls were easier than texts because you can have a conversation in less time than texting when you call. Also, with my sarcasm, I don't have to worry about whoever I am talking to getting offended because they can hear the tone in my voice. The only reason I text is because there are times where you cannot talk, but normally I talk on the phone.
